Flag
The flag in top on Brederode Castle. The image on the flag is probably the coat of arms of the Brederode family.

Brederode castle
As promised, a photo of the castle that I visited in Santpoort: Brederode castle. Originally built in the 13th century by William I of Brederode, it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times, until it was abandoned completely in 1679.

Snail
I was in Santpoort last Saturday, a small town between Haarlem and the sea, to visit the local castle (photos coming soon). I was looking for a place where I would have a good, unobstructed view of the castle. I did not find what I was looking for, but I did find lots of snails, large and small. So today I share a photo of one of those snails. Enjoy!

Food stall
Small food stalls like this can be found in any town in the Philippines. They sell canned and bottled drinks, packaged snacks (like crips), and sometimes home-made delicacies.

A wreath for Rizal
Last year I shared a photo of a statue of Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. Today's photo shows a wreath for Rizal, on the pedestal of the same statue in Tacloban City.
