The Balangiga affair, also known as the Balangiga massacre, was a guerrilla attack that killed over 40 American soldiers. It took place in 1901, during the Philippine-American War.

A tricycle is basically a converted scooter with side-car and a roof. It is a common form of public transport in small and medium cities.
This tricycle was parked in front of the white Capitol building that houses the provincial government of Leyte.

Yesterday we saw the Ridderzaal (Knight's Hall) in Den Haag. Today's photo is a detail of this hall: the doorway.

The Binnenhof (Inner Court) in Den Haag is the heart of the Dutch government and parliament quarters. In medieval times the Binnenhof was the courtyard of the counts of Holland.
On the right we see the Ridderzaal, or Knight's Hall, once the palace of the counts of Holland, now a location for official receptions by the Dutch parliament and the annual opening of the parliament by the Queen.
Yesterday I showed you a recent photo of the Dutch National Monument in Amsterdam, and mentioned that the Dutch war dead are commemorated there on Dutch Memorial Day.
Today I share a photo from my archives, taken at the National Monument a few days after Dutch Memorial Day.
The Dutch National Monument at the Dam square in Amsterdam. On this place the dead of wars and missions since WOII are commemorated with two minutes silence, wreaths and flowers, in presence of the Queen and other important people, annually on Dutch Memorial Day.
On the background left you can just make out the Krasnapolsky hotel.
